SAFETY TOPIC 9

Aerial lift safety
Opener
We continuously strive to provide an environment free from all harm by promoting a positive safety culture, which puts our employees and customers at the center of everything we do.

Critical points
-
Proper certification is REQUIRED prior to operation of an aerial lift.
-
Lifts must be inspected before each use.
-
Freeman requires a spotter for all aerial lifts in use or in motion.
-
Spotters must keep the area below the basket clear (aka the hazard zone)
-
Appropriate PPE (full body harness and a fall restraint lanyard) MUST be worn at all times while operating a boom lift.

Key points
-
Aerial lifts CANNOT be used as a crane (per the manufacturer and ANSI, attaching loads to the outside of the basket / cage is not allowed).
-
If you find defects during your pre-shift inspection, notify your supervisor.
-
Never step on the toe board or the rail of the basket / cage.
-
You can NEVER exit the basket / cage when the lift is elevated.
-
Operators MUST be aware of, and account for, the environment they are operating on or in (slopes, uneven surfaces, rough surfaces, wind speed, lightning, etc).
-
Operators and occupants must be aware of the load capacity of the lift they are operating.
-
Operators must stay a safe distance away from power sources (electrical power lines, transformers, etc.)
-
Only Freeman personnel are allowed to operate an aerial lift.
-
Use of earbuds, headphones, or portable speakers is not allowed while operating an aerial lift.
